I hope you're doing well and gaining more knowledge about AI and related subjects.
After publishing over 150 articles on https://voxstar.substack.com/, I have decided to post on Linkedin first and then a link to this article on all other channels.
I cover AI Technology, Medical, Automotive, and Seed Finance, drawing from 40+ years of experience with companies like Volvo, Selfridges, and Carphone Warehouse.
I'm particularly interested in exploring how AI can enhance the customer experience, streamline the creation of new products and apps, and encourage greater participation in the AI industry. I have now included AI Automotive and AI Healthcare subjects as well.
if you want me to include a particular topic or subject, please comment or message me via Linkedin.
Welcome to the New 17th version, edition version of AI AND AUTOMATION, your go-to source for the latest trends, tips, and techniques. I have changed the format to be more succinct but I like feedback, please. Thanks
Voxstar Weekly AI Report: Google Deepmind Breakthroughs and the Latest AI Tools
Issue #17 | 25th October 2024
🔍 Introduction
Welcome to this week's edition of the Voxstar Weekly AI and Automation Report! In this issue, we explore how Google DeepMind has announced the open-source release of SynthID, an advanced watermarking system for AI-generated content. The tool is already in use with Gemini and other Google products.
📈 Industry Insights
DeepMind Releases Open-Source AI Watermarking Tool
Meta recently announced its cutting-edge AI model, Movie Gen, a revolutionary system capable of generating high-definition videos with integrated audio entirely from text prompts. This model can also edit existing videos, allowing users to apply stylistic changes and add new elements through natural language instructions. The AI even produces sound that synchronizes perfectly with the visuals, such as background noise, ambient sounds, and sound effects. However, the model remains in its research phase due to high processing costs and slow video generation times.
Key Features:
- The system uses a 'tournament sampling' method to embed invisible watermarks while maintaining text quality.
- Tests on 20 million Gemini user interactions showed no drop in response quality or user satisfaction.
- SynthID's watermarks apply to various content types, including audio, images, and video.
- DeepMind has open-sourced SynthID, aiming to make it a standard tool for developers and companies across the industry.
- It's already integrated into Gemini, ImageFX, VideoFX, and Vertex AI's image tools, marking the first large-scale rollout of AI watermarking.
Why It Matters:
With the rise of AI, distinguishing between real and AI-generated content has become almost impossible. Google hopes SynthID will set the industry standard, though competitors are working on similar solutions. Either way, the watermarking challenge seems closer to a solution.

🧠 Lecture/News of the Week
OpenAI’s former Chief Technology Officer, Mira Murati, is reportedly seeking funding from venture capitalists for her stealth-mode AI startup, according to sources cited by Reuters.
The new venture is focused on developing AI products based on proprietary models, though it’s still unclear if Murati will take on the CEO role. Early talks suggest that Murati's startup could raise over $100 million, given her reputation and the high costs tied to proprietary model development. However, the final numbers are yet to be confirmed.
Barret Zoph, another prominent AI researcher who left OpenAI alongside Murati in late September, may also be involved in this project. Previous reports from The Information mentioned Zoph's plans to start his own AI company, while Murati has been actively recruiting OpenAI talent for her new endeavour.
